About

The Law Department at Koya University was founded in 2003, and now offers bachelor's, master's, and doctorate degrees in law.  The Department seeks to produce highly qualified and professional lawyers who can satisfy the legal needs of the KRI and Iraqi government and business sectors in light of national goals and objectives. In addition to that, the curriculum consists of modules designed to equip students with such skills and knowledge needed to succeed as academics and leaders in the legal field.

Our distinguished academics work to enhance students' cognitive, written, and interpersonal skills as well as actively promoting inventive approaches to problem-solving across all areas of law. Upon graduation, the students will have gained the skills necessary to resolve legal issues and conflicts in society and to actively work with governmental agencies and legal groups to advance legal awareness and promote human rights.

Despite its modernity, this department adheres to traditional legal education, incorporating it into the annual legal curricula of Iraqi universities. However, since the university is housed inside the KRI, it offers a five-year bachelor's degree program that complies with the KRI Ministry of Higher Education's regulations.

Mission

The Law Department, since its foundation has the following unchanged three missions:

Firstly, to equip students with knowledge, skills, and ethical basis necessary to become competent lawyers.

Secondly, to guide students towards becoming knowledgeable, competent attorneys who can handle contemporary legal issues and advance justice, as well as to prepare them for practicing law in a range of roles, such as judges, advocates, investigators, and other legal and judicial professionals.

Thirdly, to adopt innovative teaching techniques, dynamic research, and active community involvement to promote a healthier legal community.

Vision

The vision of the Law Department is to become the top law school in Iraq in general and the KRI in particular for research excellence as well as instilling confidence in students to become role model lawyers who can manage the complexity of the legal system in Iraq and KRI.
